I did the same procedure on firefox and was successful within seconds. I'm an IT programmer so I recognize this as a problem isolated to ie There are other blogs out there with tabs problems and I believe the people in trouble are not noticing other things because they are not trying to download so are not seeing these problems.
In the meantime I'm having no problems with firefox and I can function until Microsoft finds and fixes this problem. Please let me know when a patch is available.
If you have other solutions please add them. I converted it from a Discussion to a question later in the day. I'll move the question over to the IE forum at this point since I'm fairly certain that this is an IE issue and has nothing to do with malware or a virus. At this point I believe what might be really helpful is a procedure on how to remove IE11 from windows 7. That way I can download and install IE 10 and be assured that it will work. I'm facing a weird problem, for almost 5 months now. My internet connection at home works properly. I can access Facebook, Gmail, Google plus, You-tube and almost all sites. Thanks for your feedback. For some reason, internet explorer 10 has completely disappeared from my windows 8 laptop. I didn't install anything new if just up and vanished one day. I've read multiple articles on how to get it back but I've had no luck. Sometimes, when I search for it in start it'll show up and I'll pin it to start and to my task bar but when I click on it to open, a google chrome page comes up.
I have no idea what's going on because Internet Explorer is my default browser but I don't know where it's gone. For now I downloaded Firefox but I don't think this is going to last too much longer.
